An Evening With the Classics

PLease join us on April 19, 2015 at 7:00PM for an Evening With the Classics. The Chorale will present Schubert's Mass in G, Opera Choruses and a few of our favourite newer classics. We will be also be treated to solo piano performances and a vocal duet. This will surely be a lovely evening of music.

An Eveneing With the Classics will be presented at the Church of Christ the King. Tickets are $20 and available from chorale members or at the Cape Breton Curiosity Shop.

40 Years of Song

thumb_40poster25Lw.jpgThe 40 Years of Song concert includes a selection of some of the Chorale’s favourite sacred music from Vivaldi, Handel, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Haydn and Mozart, the latter with soprano soloist, Ruth Ann Morrison. The program also reflects memories of the three overseas concert tours (Wales/England, Scotland and Ireland) with arrangements of Loch Lomond, Amazing Grace, Go, Lassie Go, Fields of Athenry and Tell My Ma, as well as many songs by Cape Breton composers proudly included in Chorale repertoire. The spiritual Set Down Servant and a Broadway Medley are reminders of the many Sweet Serenades and programs of lighter music enjoyably presented through the years. Instrumental numbers by Chorale members display some of the talents shared in past concerts. The program closes with that wonderful hymn of praise and thanksgiving; Handel's Hallelujah Chorus.

An April Evening

thumb_12poster3aw.jpgThere is little so sublime as the freshness of an April evening. With the passing of winter, spring once again brings us promises of renewal and rebirth. Trees and flowers bloom, animals give birth, and our hearts are filled with hope, peace, and joy that life does go on.

The Cape Breton Chorale gave musical voice to these sentiments on Sunday April 15th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church on Bentinck Street in Sydney. The program of sacred and secular music was produced by Sister Rita Clare who shared the baton with Rosemary McGhee. Paula Jane Francis provided organ and piano accompaniment.

For this presentation, the Chorale had as its guests the piano duo of Katherine Fraser and Emily Hatcher, and the woodwind trio All Sorts Consort (Laurie Gorman, clarinet; Richard MacAulay, flute; and Barb Stetter, oboe)
